Should Christians work from home? Are there any internet businesses out there that will allow Christians to make a substantial income without compromising their faith? Seekers beware, because only one of these methods really works for the average person.
Back in the '50's, when Amway pioneered the MLM concept, it was a smashing success. This success was based on the concept of people sharing great products with other people. These people would service their customers, and create new distributors from that base. This is the essence of networking. This is the classic example of the business builder, the team builder. Looking back over the decades and billions of dollars, you could say that Amway was awesome or even that it still is. Well if you were one of the folks at the top it wou! ld certainly be true. In the 80's it was Herbalife. In the 90'! s we had Melalueca. Today there are hundreds of companies using the MLM model. Why? Because MLM is quite simply the fastest way to get your products out on the street and converted into cashflow.
Notice that I said YOUR product. If you've got thousands of wide-eyed distributors hungry for success, calling all of their relatives and friends, banging on doors, hosting hotel meetings and cookware parties, not to mention internet marketing, your company is going to move a ton of product. Even if it is priced at twice what it is worth. Sound familiar? The Company is going to make humongous profits. The vast majority of distributors will fail. The fact is, most of these phone-glued-to-the-ear folks are not really sold on their product. They are in the game for the business. They want to make some money. So they eagerly buy into the "you too can get rich" hype, and go full guns. This will last about 60-90 days. They will make about $127. They will get discouraged. They will quit. ! They will blame their failure on all kinds of things, but the real problem is that the whole thing was built on sand. No foundation.

Finally! A fighting chance to succeed on the Internet. By Jody Mullis
Everyone has to work for a living. Some go off to college and land jobs they love and some do not. Some people never went to college but somehow find financial success anyway. Education of course is key to getting paid more, after all an employer will only pay you for what your worth to his or her company... hopefully. Then there are the people who want to work for themselves . The wonderful world of self-employment can be both a blessing and a curse.
Self-employment can give you freedom from a tyrant boss, a work schedule etched in stone, the stress of working with less than friendly coworkers, etc. However you have to pay dearly for health insurance, you no longer have a reliable income, you are responsible for a retirement plan and you may not make much money. You may end up working longer hours than when you where employed, giving you less time to do the fun things in life.
What people want is freedom, the freedom to enjoy life with a decent income st! ream and lots of time to enjoy it all. No career or job can offer that. What can offer that are things like Internet marketing, network marketing, successful investing, etc. To really succeed at these things you need to know what you are doing and have the experience of both failure and success. This is where my story begins.
I work a day job that I don't really care for. I stay because it pays the bills and funds my business adventure and education. I chose to pursue a career in Internet and network marketing. I want to work for myself but not by my self. I joined a network marketing company as an affiliate both because I love their product/service and I see a future with them. However I have not been very successful in marketing their product and services. Advertising is very expensive and marketing is an art form. I purchased several internet/network marketing courses and learned much, or so I thought. I applied what I learned but met no success. I spent over a ! thousand dollars in advertising and got no results at all from! it. I w as not going to give up but was growing very disappointed in my failures.
Then a friend told me about a system that he discovered that could give me the ability to have professional Internet marketing gurus do all the marketing and advertising for me. I laughed because I know that these pros charge for their services far more than I can afford. "No, not if you are a member of this group," he told me. He then proceeded to explain to me about this group you can join that gives you access to a "black book" of contacts that range from marketing gurus that earn six figures a year to people who work at major newspapers. All of these contacts become available for you to use to promote and market whatever you are selling. They still of course charge you a fee for their services but their fees are dramatically reduced for members. Imagine a marketing guru taking your service or product and using his/her contacts and experience to promote and sell it to the world. I asked ho! w much would they charge? That all depends on the project was my answer. It can be as little as $10 or as high as $5000. Remember these are the people that make hundreds of thousands of dollars for themselves every year, so they know what they are doing. Sounds good but I don't have the resources to hire these pros was my response. "You will when you start telling other marketers about this", my friend told me. Apparently when you buy membership into this club you get an affiliate website setup with a contact page and auto responder software. How it works is when you tell other people about this or promote it, if they buy a membership you get paid $400 for each person. The system is a one up system, which means you don't get paid for your first referral. That goes to the person who's website you joined on. After you pass up your first referral commission you get paid $400 per referral after that. The same applies to you when you become a member. People who join on your site! will have to pass up their first referral commission and that! goes to you. So you actually get paid $800 per person. The founder of this system set it up this way for you to generate income to use to hire the pros in the "black book" for your projects. Some people are not even interested in the contacts at all but are only interested in the $400 commissions.

A successful Christian business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. "The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO" One man, named Tom, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if ! it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Tom kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.
Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Tom didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by--still nothing in Tom's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Tom didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Tom told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Tom felt sick at his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife wa! s right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Tom arr! ived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful--in all shapes and sizes. Tom put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Tom just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!" All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Tom at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the financial director to bring him to the front. Tom was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!" When Tom got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed Tom told him the story.
The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Tom. He looked at Tom, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive! His name is Tom!" Tom couldn't believe it. Call me crazy, but I disagree. For me, self-publishing was the first choice. Why? I wanted to keep control of the project and timetable, keep the rights, and, most importantly, keep most of the profits. How did it turn out? Well...
A Full-Time Income For over four years, my first book supported me full-time. Not "picking-out-chateaux-in-the-South-of-France" kind of money, but it paid all my bills (including two printings each year), allowed me to take some nice vacations, save a chunk of money and incur no new debt. When your per book profit (after expenses) is many times what you'd make with a publisher, you can be nicely profitable with much lower numbers.
A few caveats. My genre - non-fiction "how-to" - is, arguably, the easiest to self-publish (with straight non! -fiction second). Why? Not only is there an insatiable appetite for information in the buying public, but also with non-fiction "how-to," it's relatively easy to identify and pursue specific target audiences. Fiction is harder to self-publish but for first-time novelists, it's also far harder to attract a conventional publisher.
Second & Third Caveats All this advice applies if your goal is to have your book be a commercial success and if you have the time to market your masterpiece. If neither is the case, you'd be better off with a publisher or in a POD scenario, where your upfront investment is low or nonexistent (as will be, in all likelihood, your backend profits...). As for the time thing, though, if you're fantasizing that you'll find a publisher who will allow you to simply drop off your manuscript while they handle that whole "icky marketing thingy," think again.
Author Jessica Hatchigan (How to be Your Own Publicist) observed, "Authors who rece! ive modest advances for their books - and that's most authors ! - can ex pect scandalously little in marketing support from most publishers." Most publishers these days want to work with authors who come to them with, not only their book, but also a plan for promoting and marketing that book. So, if I still have to do most of the work for anemic royalty rates, self-publishing is worth a look.
Conventional vs. Unconventional Most publishing companies take the "shotgun" approach to promotion and publicity. Mass emailed press releases to mainstream media outlets. Mass-mailed and unsolicited review copies (with little or no follow up). EVERY single one of the roughly 500+ review copies I've sent out over the years went to someone with whom I'd communicated in advance. Yes, it takes more time, but yields far more "bang for the book."
As a self-publisher, you can focus on your title and find the most effective ways to promote it, as opposed to the above-described pub company model. By contrast, as a self-publisher, I go where the tr! affic is lighter, the reception is warmer and the people speak my language.

Five Crucial Conference Considerations By Dawn Wilson
Seriously, why should we take our credit cards and charge up a trip? Why should we take a weekend away from our spouse? Why should we take on the extra expense when the holidays are upon us? Seminars and conferences cost money!
Not only do they cost money, but they often require traveling to an unknown city which for some people can be quite an ordeal. Conferences can mean long hours of mostly sitting, having our minds stretched, being confronted with ideas we may wrestle with, listening to speakers we like, speakers we don't. Would our time not be more wisely spent working our business and being consistent and doing the little things?
No, our time is not better spent saying we will continue in the monotonous consistency, constantly putting out, but never taking the time or money to refresh us, to grow, to breathe and to revisit those tasks with a different mindset. I have been to seven seminars this year. I can honestly compare them for their financial val! ue and say that this hotel was the nicest; this city had the easiest transportation; this city had the best restaurants; this city was the most/least costly. However, I can also honestly evaluate them and say that I learned something integral to running and growing my business at each and every one.
First, seminars put us in a different atmosphere, take us away from the confusion, the everyday activities, and put us in a position to concentrate on one thing: evaluating our circumstances. Is my business working for me and am I working my business? Where are the weaknesses? Where are the strengths? Is there another direction I need to consider? Perhaps the reiteration of things slowly forgotten is the most important thing gained. Perhaps a new concept that you would never have considered or heard about was presented and breathed life into an ordinary campaign. Sometimes being in fellowship with your peers, discussing your triumphs and your hardships with people livin! g in like circumstances is the most freeing feeling. Being in ! a situat ion where you can open up and discuss things that your family and friends do not understand or, kind as they may be about it, do not care to understand, can be incredible. Seminars put us in that place of kinship with our peers.
Secondly, consider a conference presented by your company which will put you in a place of being "in the know" and allow you the opportunity to meet your leaders, hear from their mouths the plans and changes that are coming. You will be introduced to people who are making a success of their business. You may have heard their names on calls or read them on company literature or even seen them on the website. Now you have the chance to see them in person, ask them some questions. Rubbing shoulders and gleaning wisdom from people who are successful is key to becoming successful yourself. It also doesn't hurt to be known by your leaders as someone who is working hard to improve themselves!
Thirdly, there are seminars distinctly created ! to teach us how to market, how to create web presence, how to connect with people, how to advertise, etc. There are many qualified, successful entrepreneurs who are now in a place where they can share the wisdom they have gained. They are free to share their strategies, their stories, and their failures in the hopes that you can learn from them. These conferences are not business-specific. As you find your weakness in your business, take the time to investigate how you can improve in that area. Ask your upline, your peers, your leaders to recommend books, listening material and coaches. Find those who are good at what you are not good at and go learn from them! Do not waste your time trying to figure everything out on your own, failing, adjusting, tiny successes, and more failing. Go to someone who has already done the dirty work of learning the ropes and download their expertise!

Working from home is becoming more and more popular with those looking to earn a decent wage without having to disrupt their lives too much, but it is not as easy as you think. The ability to work from home is a dream for many, but now that dream can become a reality. The internet and a home computer has enabled people who would never have dreamt of working from home to fulfil their dream. Working from home is increasingly becoming part of a balanced working schedule for many traditionally office-based workers, along with people who are setting up their own businesses. At one time you needed to buy or rent premises to set up your own business and carry stock but time are changing. You must remember though working from home is a business and a proper job, and should be treated as such or you will fail.

Just because your working hours are not rigid when you are working from home they need not be so flexible that you loose the distinction between work and home life. Your family is the most important thing to you and working from home allows you to be at home with your family all hours of the day. One of the perks with working from home is you can work whatever hours you want. Having a separate office in your house that you rarely go into after hours gives some home/work separation. Various tax incentives allow you to offset part of the costs of running your business against profits, and being home-based means you can fit work around your other responsibilities, work the hours that suit you best, and so on.
